THE WIZARDS WHO FLEW INTO AMERICA

Author:                Tunde Akingbade

Publisher:             1st Books Library, USA

Reviewer:             Tony Ofoyetan Esq. LL. M,B.L

Pages:                   188

Without prejudice to the critical role of a reviewer of a book of international standard such as this, I would liken my position to that of a referee in an international football match who rather than officiate unbiasely as an umpire got carried away by the dribbling prowess of one of the players, who dribbled seven players from the opponent side, that he started clapping until he suddenly realized he was being watched, he spectators could not help but clap the more, this time for the splendidly displayed talent and for the concentration of the referee.

Looking at the book, from presentation to the title and chiefly the content therein, even a man with slender words would fall into the helpless temptation of becoming garrulous with encomium, both for the author and the publisher.

The title is scintillatingly attractive and the cover design, irresistibly seraphic.  The uniqueness of the “The Wizards who Flew into America” has to do with the novelty of the story and the manner of presentation that keeps readers spell bound, although not wanting to stop until they are through and even when through, still yearning for more.  The novel however brings the realities of the second world so close that it becomes more than fiction or imaginations.

Contemporary orientation and civility have placed most African beliefs under the concept of ancient African mythology and mere superstitions to the extent that not much people seem to be interested in doing major work on the subject for the fear of lack of patronage and being Christened an idol worshipper or archaic.

The Novelty of the book is the ability of the author to present it as a novel of uncompromising interest and a research material of unequalled depth.  It is revealing, educative, entertaining, captivating and terrifying.  A nineteen chapter novel conspicuously nexuses with a gift of the gab presentation that bring sorcery not only interestingly but terrifying closer than fiction and imagination.

The Novel gives the deliverance preacher an insight into the activities and might or otherwise of his ach enemy and places the carefree individual at alert whilst ridiculing scientific and legal intrusion into the kingdom of the unknown.  The demystification of the invisibility of demonic spirits and their human agents vis-à-vis their sadistic activities calls for kudos.

When Hain and John were allocated accommodation in the Estate of Kabana alias “With me, everyday is like Christmas” as staff of Cough 2000 International Inc. a concern owned by Amanda, a close friend and associate of Kabana, little did they know that they were in for the worst trouble any living soul could face.

That Jack, Hain’s dog eavesdrops and cannot be gotten rid off petrify the two friends, mysterious birds, snakes and sound became their regular cronies and musical sound.

In an attempt to get fortified, John fell prey to one of Yemoja’s damsels, which added to his huddles.  Amanda lost Cough International Inc. to a mysterious inferno masterminded by the Chief Sorcerer, Buffalo and his cohorts.

The day and night become more petrifying for Hain and John. Whirlwind, the head of the armed robbery gang in Freedomtown was not left out of the havoc having his fortification from Buffalo.

Hain and John were fed up with the troubles coupled with the change of Government via coup; the only option left was to travel to America en route Federal Republic of Atlantis.

Prince Felix who had been involved in stealing of artifacts got very unfortunate when he stole the devil’s rod, whilst Kabana who was recklessly wealthy without any particular means of livelihood received the knock of this life when he misplaced the key to his secluded room and one of this tenants found the key and curiously entered the room, what she saw was shocking.

When Hain and John eventually settled down in America, Hain decided to marry from his home country, but unfortunately married the agent of the devil.  The bird that perches behind his window is the same as the mysterious bird that disturbs in Freedomtown, he could not help but kill the bird.  Then the Court cases.  Hain was charged for being cruel and killing endangered specie.  A bird he believed was sent from Freedomtown for him and incidentally, something strange happened at Freedomtown at the same hour.

For Hain to establish his case before the white-man, he needed a lawyer who can understand the mystery behind the bird and establish the justification for killing it, to be freed from the persecuting grip of the wild life service – this is not a case for the spiritually ignorant lawyers – only the likes of Calixthus from the Caribbean Island can handle it.

Back at home Buffalo felt-offended that Hain has killed one of their members in the nocturnal club and John jilted a very dear daughter of Yemoja – these friends must pay dearly for it, all hands must be on deck to display at the trial of these ones in the U.S., we must be there in person, no need of visa or flight ticket, and the flight must be made to America – here the wizards come…

You are welcome to the captivating sorcery tale of “The Wizards who flew into America” told in an unequalled manner by the master story-teller himself – Tunde Akingbade
